Signs you have been sitting at your desk too long and need to stop trying to write, #364

You title a piece about recently discovered  sunken paddlewheelers

“The Wrecks of the North Get Their Herald”

I know there’s a good Gordon Lightfoot pun to be made somewhere, but brother, that ain’t it.

Seems like a good time to post my favourite graffito, located on the door of a women’s washroom stall at Braeburn Lodge, one hour (100km) north of Whitehorse and pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
What I wouldn’t give for a glimpse into the artist’s motivation…

Anonymous asked: I have a fur fetish. Is that bad?

For furry people? For furry animals? For fur coats? Just as long as you’re stocked up on lint rollers, I don’t think it’s bad at all.

Now, enjoy one of my favourite songs:

I mean seriously. I know exactly when this was taken, what shirt I am wearing (thank god I didn’t just get out of the shower), and what I am making for dinner (steak and sweet corn)….  Crazy! You move to the Yukon, and Google is still stallking you.

Okay, Google Maps, as someone who often goes pantless in the house, I am a little bit creeped out by this.

You can see why you have to take this one by strategy. It’s foggy up there!  P.s - I love that the video has subbed “strategy” for “collie”.   Hooray for slightly demented Youtubers.

“Our personalities stay pretty much the same throughout our lives, from our early childhood years to after we’re over the hill,” according to an arguably depressing new study. Traits observed in first-graders are apparently accurate predictors of who those kids will be as adults. “Personality is part of our biology,” Christopher Nave, a doctoral candidate at the University of California, Riverside, said. “Life events still influence our behaviors, yet we must acknowledge the power of personality in understanding future behavior as well.” So if you’re waiting on someone to change, maybe stop.”

Science is a pessimistic a_hole sometimes.

Elaine Corden invented an eponymous drink last summer. It’s actually made with pear Absolut though (sheesh, Lainers!), and I obviously would only bring the best France-thrifted glassware to sip cocktails from a la plage, come on.
Says elainecorden: “Nyiri has one-upped me and added what I think is mint??? Damn you!”

I am Martin Carthy, Nyiri is Paul Simon, and this drink is Scarborough Fair. That said, I don’t even enjoy Scarborough Fair when I’m drunk. Also, Jason Upton, who I believe was present that day, is all of Los Lobos, and I propose we start calling him LaBamba.
