Just watched this a few days ago. Thought it was beautifully shot, but didn’t see how the main character achieved any sort of redemptive qualities.
In an effort to be more “social” as dictated by a collective AHBH ‘09 resolution (minimal at-home karaoke, fewer discussions of BOD’s) — we left the house yesterday and rented The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (I also bought a delicious bagel.)
I have not seen Julian Schnabel’s other two movies and I have never been especially taken by any of his paintings (though admittedly fascinated by his pink NYC palazzo) but I thought that this movie was throughly stunning. I think it achieves what The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (which I liked well enough) tries to do, but with less manipulation.
